A Dozen Pretty Words

Wildflowers Forget-Me

Forget me; forget me not.

I’m standin’ my ground –

yesterday’s dirt piled high.

My heart beatin’ to a new tune.

♦

Pretty words by the dozen

offered on a silver music sheet.

Singin’ with the man on the moon,

they suspect me unworthy – ah well.

♦

Pretty words dazzle in the sun,

but lose their shine after dark.Β

They ought to be in bright poems

about love and high emotion.Β

♦

They don’t belong in my song.

What am I gonna do with ’em?

A small twig of forget-me-not flowers

Better off given to someone

in need of their brilliance.

♦

Mine more like stray dogs

adopting one of their own.Β

They’re not afraid of the dark

or to sing along with us –

♦

Forget me; forget me not.

I’m standin’ my ground –

yesterday’s dirt piled high.

My heart beatin’ to a new tune.

♦

I don’t have a bouquet for tomorrow.

I don’t own the future.

I own my truth worth more

and the clothes on my back…

vase with forget-me on the window

    1. I did the exact same thing not that long ago lol. πŸ™‚ I still don’t know how I did it. I’m blaming it on my laptop. It didn’t seem to mind lol. I’ll see if it’s still showing up on my end. πŸ™‚
