Street Lights

Illumination and night lights of New York City

It’s been three months

with time flyin’ by,

and still nowhere ahead.

Hooked up with some girls

headin’ in my direction.Β

Going from place to place –Β

Looking for meaning;

looking for purpose…

Illumination and night lights of New York City

Lookin’ for a place to sleep.

The streets cold at night

while they sleep –

Happy smiles who

don’t hear us walkin’ by –

easier that way.

Our voices hushed

with insignificance.

Illumination and night lights of big city

Our steps guided by

the glaring street lights.

Takin’ warmth from

our shared need to

keep going – somewhere,

anywhere – nowhere ahead…

A friend willing to

shelter us for the night.Β

Illumination and night lights of big city

Walkin’ with new found purpose.

The nights gettin’ too long;

the days gettin’ colder.

So tomorrow can wait,

its arms closed anyway.

Invisible to light’s happy smiles –

easier that way.

A follow up to my poem Nowhere in Mind. This is the continued story of Autumn, who ran away from home in search of a better tomorrow.

    1. Thank you so much, Amy. πŸ™‚ I wanted to convey the sense of quiet despair that you mentioned. Your feedback tells that I was successful. I don’t always quite hit my target, but I’m getting better with practice. πŸ™‚ I’m not in this place so no worries, Amy. πŸ™‚ After I posted this one, I sat down and wrote a follow up. I probably won’t get a chance to post until after my vacation. Right now, it’s too long and needs editing. Wishing you a beautiful evening. ((Hugs)) πŸ™‚
