Memories Packed

Birdhouse hanging by purple spring tree blossoms

Strikin’ out on my own.

Leavin’ home to find my way.

Please don’t be sad, Mama.

I got this.

And you raised me right –

Remember that.

My turn to go now.

It won’t always be easy.

You told me that.

But I’m gonna be fine.

I got this.

Some day you’ll see.

Time to let go.

Time to live my life.

So don’t be sad, Mama.

You made certain

I’d be ready.

Strikin’ out on my own.

Findin’ my own way.

Childhood memories

packed in boxes.

Remindin’ meΒ

where I come from.

Remindin’ meΒ

I’m gonna be just fine.

So you see, Mama,

no need to be sad…

I got this.

Some day you’ll see.

I was inspired to write this after a conversation with my youngest daughter, who will be moving away and into her first apartment this summer.

    1. Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. πŸ’œ Moving out is a huge step that we all need to take. As my daughter once pointed out to me, it’s the natural order. Wishing you a beautiful day and the best of luck on your new journey. πŸ’œ

    1. Thank you, Marcia. I’m sure your granddaughter will do great. We spend years preparing them for that time. It’s one of the hardest things to do as parents, but we have to let them go.

    1. Thank you, Ellen. I love your reference to the apron strings. I wear an apron around the house all the time. Something I picked up from my grandmother. It was my pleasure btw. 😊

    1. Thank you, Jason. πŸ™‚ Purple was my father’s favorite color which is why I chose it. I’ve used purple as the main color in a few of my posts for the same reason. πŸ™‚

    1. She may have just found the perfect apartment so I’m excited for her. πŸ™‚ I’m also nervous which is normal. One of the hardest things to do is let them go, but we have to let them spread their own wings and fly. πŸ™‚ Thank you so much for stopping by btw. πŸ™‚

      1. That’s wonderful and of course you’re excited and nervous for her. Totally normal. My daughter just got her license and a car and I hardly see her so I know how you feel.

      2. I remember when my daughter first got her licence. I was so nervous every time she left the house. It took some time before I could relax again. She’s driving her car to her new apartment which is in a much bigger spot than here. I’m already nervous at the prospect. Congratulations to your daughter.:) Getting their licence is a big milestone for them.:)
