Caged

fashion model woman in prison portrait

Trapped inside an invisible cage,

looking out in hopeless resignation, your wings long clipped.

Life hasn’t been kind to you.

Your dreams and desires

cover the floor like leaves blowing in the wind

on a cold autumn’s day.

Hope replaced by sorrow,

a lone figure at the edge of the river.

Life, mocking your childish aspirations,

moves forward, days turning into nights.

Nights turning into days.

Lost somewhere in the endless flow of time,

carried away by the current.

Heartache locked away,

the key suspended between past and present.

Your future in suspense,

imprisoned by grief.

Surrounded by a love

unable to mend the pieces,

the ability existing within you alone…

My dearest sister:

Your cage is also your strength,

drawing power from you, its source.

A reflection of you, for the more solid the cage,

the stronger its engineer.

Find the key to your cage,

unlock the door, and join me.

My plea may seem impossible.

Your journey back will be filled with old and new pain.

You may be tempted to give up.

The familiar may sometimes be easier to bear

than the fight for your freedom.

But, in case you’ve forgotten this truth,

you are a warrior, unstoppable.

Remember that girl long ago,

sharing yet another joke,

confronting life head on.

Fight for her.

Fight for you.

  1. Deeply moving and powerful and the way you write Life’s Journey from the victim to freedom is one that mirrors my own life. You really touched me. I don’t follow all who follow me due to the sheer numbers. Yet I am drawn to your blog. I look forward in getting to know you. Don’t be shy at Petals. I would love to hear your feedback and thoughts. Hope your day is a good one!! >3

  2. The familiar may sometimes be easier to bear. That truly is how and why so many people get stuck in life. Doing the same thing over and over expecting different results. Support is so valuable if only by allowing another view.
    Beautifully written. Exquisite message.

    1. Thank you so much for your beautiful comment. I agree with you and suspect that most or perhaps all of us become stuck at some point in our lives. We need to surround ourselves with those who love and support us. We need to love and support those around us 💜
